Previous appearances as a baritone have included Harlequin in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS and Thierry in DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES with Santa Fe Opera; Moralès in CARMEN and Yamadori in MADAMA BUTTERFLY with Austin Lyric Opera; Wagner in FAUST with Portland Opera Repertory Theatre; Count Almaviva in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with Amarillo Opera; Arbace in IDOMENEO, Demetrius in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Mr. Gobineau in THE MEDIUM, Eisenstein in DIE FLEDERMAUS, Guglielmo in COSÌ FAN TUTTE, and Kaiser in DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS with the Boston University Opera Institute; and Bula Schultz in the world premiere of KORCZAK'S ORPHANS with Real Time Opera, which was also showcased on Vermont Public Radio. Additional appearances have included roles in DON GIOVANNI, GIULIO CESARE, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, LA CENERENTOLA, and ALBERT HERRING. Concert highlights have included a RICHARD RODGERS CENTENNIAL with the Boston Pops; the BRAHMS REQUIEM with the Boston Masterworks Chorale; Schumann's REQUIEM with the Arlington-Belmont Chorale and Philharmonic; CARMINA BURANA with the Boston Fine Arts Chorale; Mahler's LIEDER EINES FAHRENDEN GESELLEN with the Indian Hills Symphony; and Vaughan Williams's ON WENLOCK EDGE with the International Vocal Arts Institute. Additional concert and recital credits have included Bach's MASS IN B-MINOR, Mendelssohn's ELIJAH, the FAURÉ REQUIEM, the DURUFLÉ REQUIEM, the MOZART REQUIEM, Mozart's MASS IN C-MINOR, Handel's MESSIAH, and Schumann's DICHTERLIEBE. Mr. Kumar has participated in the young artist programs of Santa Fe Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, and Opera North, and with Italy's Spoleto Festival in productions of EUGENE ONEGIN and SEMELE. He is a prize-winner of the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition, the Liederkranz Vocal Competition, the Rosa Ponselle Competition, and the Lakes Region Opera Competition.
