Roy Stevens
tenor

Following an international career as a dramatic baritone, performing at such venues as the Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Barcelona's Gran Theatre del Liceu, Lisbon's Teatro São Carlo, Oper Frankfurt, and the Dresden Staatsoper, Roy Stevens made his Heldentenor debut with Austria's Tiroler Festspiele in 2003, singing highlights from the title role in SIEGFRIED for the Gala Opening Concert. Subsequently with the Tiroler Festspiele, he performed the title role of Stravinsky's OEDIPUS REX, Loge in DAS RHEINGOLD, and concerts of contemporary music. Cover engagements with the Tiroler Festspiele have included Siegfried in both SIEGFRIED and GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, and the title roles in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE and PARSIFAL. He made his American tenor debut in Washington D.C., performing excerpts from SIEGFRIED and GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, presented by Thomas Stewart and Evelyn Lear. Recent tenor highlights have included Siegmund and both Siegfrieds in excerpts from DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN for Berkeley Opera's “THE ONE EVENING RING”; Don José in CARMEN with California's Golden Gate Opera; an OPERA GALA concert and Eisenstein in DIE FLEDERMAUS with the Townsend Opera Players at the new Gallo Arts Center; WAGNER CONCERTS in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and Dallas; a return to Washington D.C. for a WAGNER CONCERT featuring excerpts from TRISTAN UND ISOLDE and SIEGFRIED; a DUO CONCERT of Wagner and Verdi with soprano Annalisa Winberg, accompanied by Greg Mason; and a concert of WAGNER DUETS from TRISTAN UND ISOLDE and DIE WALKÜRE with Janis Martin. He made his Italian tenor debut at Palermo's Teatro Massimo as Edrisi in Syzymanovski's KROL ROGER, and created the title role in Daniel Holstrom's THE RETURN OF ODYSSEUS for its first public reading in Washington D.C. Although he is now a tenor, Mr. Stevens reprised the title role in FALSTAFF with director-designer Stefano Poda at the National Theater of Guatemala.
