Roy Stevens
tenor

Roy Stevens enjoyed a successful international career as a dramatic baritone, specializing in such roles as Falstaff, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Alberich, Beckmesser, and Telramund, as well as in contemporary repertoire. He performed at such venues as the Teatro alla Scala, Barcelona's Gran Theatre del Liceu, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Lisbon's Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Oper Frankfurt, Dallas Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Dresden's Semperoper, among others. In 2002, while engaged by the Metropolitan Opera, his voice shifted to the tenor range. After covering and debuting Heldentenor roles such as Siegfried, Siegmund, Parsifal, Tristan, and Loge, Mr. Stevens decided to specialize in the “character Heldentenor” roles of Loge, Herod, and Mime. These roles and other intensely character-driven roles in the tenor repertoire exploit his proven international level of acting and vocal intensity, his chameleon-like versatility, and his love of challenging roles and productions. Mr. Stevens has successfully performed in eleven languages, and under many different styles of direction. Tenor career highlights have included Loge in DAS RHEINGOLD and the title role in Stravinsky's OEDIPUS REX with Austria's Tiroler Festspiele (also covering Siegfried in both SIEGFRIED and GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, Tristan in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, and the title role in PARSIFAL); Edrisi in Szymanowski's KING ROGER (in Polish) with Palermo's Teatro Massimo; Eisenstein in DIE FLEDERMAUS with Townsend Opera; Don José in CARMEN with Golden Gate Opera; Siegmund and Siegfried in DER RING IN EINEM ABEND with Berkeley Opera; creating the role of Odysseus in the world premiere of Daniel Holstrom's THE RETURN OF ODYSSEUS (in ancient Greek) at the Greek Embassy in Washington D.C.; tenor soloist in Beethoven's NINTH SYMPHONY with the Auburn Symphony; and WAGNER CONCERTS in several major cities throughout the United States.
